Is Russell's Panic Justified?

After leading the Canadian GP Russell suffers his first Mechanical set back on his quest for a maiden Formula 1 World Championship. However his reaction to the DNF was a bit out of character, does he subconsciously know something about this title fight that means a deficit this early in the season will be costly.

After what Russel's camp would consider a positive saturday, where Russell both wins the sprint and Qualifies on Pole for the Grand Prix, it seemed like he was begining to turn the tide on his championship hopes. On what I would consider one of his favoured tracks on the calendar interms of performance, Russell had set himself up to win on both days of the 5th round in this adolescent championship challenge. However in all that success there was a lingering/ nagging concern, something that should be both alarming and telling for what i expect to come from his main championship rival. Russell was the slower of the two. It may not have been so in qualifying but in race trim however it was clear.

Antonelli is for real, his struggles of last year are no more, much like his predecessor Lewis Hamilton this generation of cars that reintroduce pitch into the cars means that they can excell and be difference makers against their ultra talented teammates. I believe both Antonelli and Hamilton have very similar driving styles and philosophies, meaning that despite being great qualifiers on paper their real strength is in race pace, wheel to wheel positioning, late-braking and preserving tyre life.

But Why is this important?

Because I believe George has seen the telemetry on the other side of the garage and he cannot mimic Kimi's driving style and subsequently match his race-pace. Meaning Kimi's Lower category form is translating... and in the most terrifying way/context for the pre-season title favourite, Russell. That is the only plausible reason for his uncharacteristic reaction to the DNF. No not because he was leading the race, but because he knows that a deficit at this stage will be bothersome. Do i Believe he can turn it around, Yes. But Russell has to take it one race weekend at a time, his first goal should be focused on Kimi or even the championship, it should be to 1. Have a clean Weekend. And 2. finish on the Podium. That should be regardless of track conditions because that is how he will win this championship, by consistently scoring quality points.

Despite the time of year, the championship is still in its early stages, and there are many tracks that will bring there own unique challenges, and the development race will be just as important as anything so the number of challengers could change drastically, and i believe I have previously mentioned the one driver poised to pounce on any late championship slip ups, if offered up by the Mercedes pair.
